Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for Dal Fry, a popular Indian lentil dish that's rich in flavour and easy to make.

Ingredients

  • For the Dal:
    • 1 cup split yellow lentils (toor dal or moong dal)
    • 4 cups water
    • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
    • Salt to taste
  • For the Tempering:
    • 2 tablespoons oil or ghee
    • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
    • 1 onion, finely chopped
    • 1-2 green chilies, slit (adjust for spice)
    • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
    • 2 tomatoes, chopped
    • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
    • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
    • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Dal in Navarasa Tri-Ply Pressure Cooker :
    • Rinse the lentils under cold water until the water runs clear.
    • In Navarasa Tri-Ply Pressure Cooker, combine the lentils, water, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the lentils are soft and mushy. If using a pressure cooker, cook for about 3-4 whistles.
  2. Prepare the Tempering:
    • In a Navarasa Tri-ply Kadai, heat oil or ghee over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
    • Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
    • Stir in the green chilies and ginger-garlic paste, cooking for another minute until fragrant.
    • Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften and oil separates (about 5-7 minutes).
    • Mix in the red chili powder and garam masala. Cook for another minute.
  3. Combine and Serve:
    • Add the cooked dal to the tempering mixture. Stir well and adjust the consistency with water if needed. Let it simmer for a few minutes.
    • Taste and adjust salt if necessary.
    • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  4. Enjoy:
    • Serve hot with rice, roti, or naan.

Enjoy your homemade Dal Fry!
